Ditching Diets

When I was thinking to write on 'Ditching Diet', I thought why do all diet Trends fail. I guess because in everyones subconscious mind there is always doubt about these trends. & when there is doubt, your mind dont give you 100% result.
Diet fads are very common from last 2-3 years. Now a days everyone is trying this or that trend still no one is satisfied. Come on how can temporary things give you satisfaction for lifetime.
Keto, fat first, intermittent, GM diet, low carb, vegan, paleo and so on list is long of dieting trends & no matter how much you spend on all these stuff, you still feel I am not loosing, I am tired, I am feeling dull, I am having hair fall & what will you miss the most- your daily eating habit, your daily food, even cheating days will not satisfy you & cravings of sugar, junk, fried food will increase only. When you have daily balanced meal without thinking healthy & weightloss stuff you will be more than satisfied. Like super breakfast, daily masala chay, 3 course lunch, yummy snacks (mom made chiwda/ khakra/laddoo) & dinner like dal rice/ roti sabji/khichdi kadhi/paratha.
And with all these occasionlly your favourite food pav bhaji, dosa, idli sambhar, chola bhatura, pani puri, laddus, halwas & other sweets..  You will never feel guilty, you will never feel craving and to add on you will happily loose weight without being vegan or without doing fat first thing.
I really dont understand log kya kya soch sakte he, if you are lactose intolerant or vegan they made almond milk or soya milk. I mean what is the point if you want to be vegan stay vegan why you want to chipkao anything on the name of milk. Hadd to jab hui when I heard cauliflower rice, koi bhi 'aam insaan' will think fulgobhi ka pulao hoga. But I was like more than in shock state cauliflower rice is grated cauliflower which is considerd as rice and make pulao with vegetable (matlab no role of rice still name is cauliflower rice), all this just to remove rice from backstage. OMG I felt like "bhai, nahi khana he chawal mat kha" aur bhi option he atleast dont insult anyone, to kya hua rice dont have feeling it must be hurt(ohh nooo) .
Your mind knows what rice is, what milk is, still you are trying to make fun of it, do you think it will spare you, no it will make you 'double mota'. I have given you only these 2 examples, list is long for these trends :
• golden milk/ turmeric latte (in our simple language haldi ka dudh).
• Ghee in coffee with warm water(not for me pls).
• Moringa powder(sambhar or kadhi falli which we used only in winters).
• Clarified butter or golden butter (ghee) aur bhi naam he ghee k A2 cow ghee , organic ghee (ghee ki to chandi chandi ho gayi).
• 100 types of teas without sugar, without milk even sometime without chai patti(ohh nooo).
• Soy paneer/ tofu (I wonder).
• Gluten free (bachpan se wheat roti & other roties kha rahe he tab kabhi gluten nahi dikha na hi usne pareshan kiya).
• Sorry but list is long .
Eat what you can sustain lifelong, dont go blind over these 15 days or one month diet trends. The one who does not keep you happy lifelong do you think it will keep you happy even for a month.
And yes you all might have heard a news of Bengali actress who recently died because of Keto diet.
Dont make & dont believe these trends go make you weak in your knees, simply ditch these diets, eat what you have seen since your childhood, even dont make your kid the culprit one. I believe diets are for those who are really ill or have this or that problem or if doctors suggest them to do so. If you are not active, not doing workout properly, not having food properly, not sleeping properly then work on these things instead of focusing only on diet, diet, diet... In our culture even God loves 56 bhog, & when they can have it is 'Prasad' only, it is gift of God, gift of nature, gift of our ancestor our mother that we can make these wonderful dishes, so eat them as they are, as they should.

Counting Calories

Counting Calories

I will not have sweets, I am getting fat...
Don’t want rice, it is so starchy...
Potato, I to avoid it, you know calories...
So many blah... blah...

Excuse me, why you are counting calories. Just focus on mindful eating.(Anyway not everyone has done dietetics to count calories).

When we should focus on eating we are busy with mobile and TV and ready to blame calories of food. We eat extra, then we feel guilty, then we almost ‘dhindora pito' that I have to workout extra tomorrow .

This is oily, This is sugary and This is starchy was not in list 10 years back. Ohh, come on! Focus on your food first. Focus on your body’s need. Focus on culture. Focus on environment.

But you know blaming someone who can’t say anything is easy. Do you know how many calories a roti (be it wheat or jowar or bajra) has, rice has, a potato has or simple fruits which you eat daily have. I am sure you will say rice is heavy, starchy it has so many calories. Let me tell you 30 gm of uncooked rice & 30 gm of wheat flour has same calories. It seems 2 roti is enough but, 1/2 katori rice will make you feel, 'kuch khaya nahi'. And then eating double will lead to bloating, heaviness. At party or at restaurant 1 slice of pizza (200Kcal) is not enough, you always want more almost half of your breakfast. And then next day all guilt will come out with extra dose of exercise or fasting. Arrre! It’s okay. Don’t punish your mind by feeling guilty and don’t punish your body by keeping it hungry or by tiring it. Blaming the food or feeling guilty is not the solution. I mean it is so simple- you are eating extra, you are not paying attention to body signal or to satiety signal and you are blaming food and of course, counting calories again.

Yes our body, our mind do signal when to eat, when to stop, but we are almost ignoring it. And yes in Indian culture we should not waste food. So what do we do?
We eat the leftover, if 1 roti remains in dabba then your mom will tell 'Half you have and half I will have'. Then both will end up eating extra. That is where gaining & other stuff starts. It is not that eating this or that is the culprit. I have heard that, it is written in Ayurveda, "75% of space must always remain in the stomach".
In simple language, don’t make your new rule. Enjoy your food as you used to before social media.
Sit down... Thank to God... Listen to your stomach.. Take only half of what you think you need... Look at food with respect ( it is not a task to finish)... Chew properly... Relish it by licking your finger... If you need, take 1 more serving(e.g. if you have 2 roti daily then have 1 in 1st serving if hungry take half serving more)...
Eat in every 2 to 3 hours in small amount for all health problems. If you want to eat both rice and roti eat them both in 2 hour gap. This mindful eating techniques, portion control, satiety signals all will help you to heal yourself without counting calories. Eat Gulab Jamun (as a meal itself), but don’t be guilty. Don’t make body to compensate for your guilt.
And yes, be as your Ma/Dadi/Nani, they never counted calories before feeding you. So don’t count calories before feeding the kids.

One simple rule, “Eat food as food don’t make it feast”. It doesn't mean you cant have pizza or pav-bhaji. Eat but dont count & dont over eat & dont make it daily habit.

(Yes move more & be active but not at the cost of your health).

Eat healthy,
Eat balanced,
Have Temptinghealth.
